APRIL

10–13 April 2009

Lake Light Sculpture Jindabyne is a free outdoor exhibition held along the foreshore of Lake Jindabyne picturesquely nested at the foothills of the NSW Snowy Mountains. This annual arts festival occurs over the Easter long weekend, (10 – 13 April 2009). The sculptures are displayed in an evocative setting with the reflections of the Snowy Mountains in the lake, providing a living studio for the artworks. A sense of discovery is created while walking along the pathway. The aim of the festival is to be all inclusive, and accessible to all groups and all ages. The exhibition is open all day and illuminated after dark which allows enough time for the early dawn walkers, energetic families, pet lovers, evening strollers and star gazers to all take in the exhibition when it suits them best. The pathway is also wheelchair accessible.

A small sculptures section will also be included this year, which will be exhibited indoors in a more intimate setting.

Tourism New South Wales is supporting Lake Light Sculpture as a Regional Flagship Event recognizing it as an event that supports and contributes to the unique identity of the Snowy Mountains region. This much needed funding will help us reach further afield and attract more artists and visitors to experience autumn in the mountains.

We also have a successful relationship with ANU Faculty of Art, South East Arts and Regional Arts NSW, which enriches all elements of the event by offering their expertise, inspiration and encouragement.

‘Park Your Arts’ is a new initiative of the event, with funding awarded by Festivals Australia, a national cultural funding program. This year, four permanent sculptural seats are to be created which will be unveiled during the festival.  The theme of each of the seats will express certain elements of identity, culture, heritage and the natural environment of the region. These are being created by local artists, two specifically in conjunction with community groups.

The festival offers a diversity of experiences for the visitor. Building on the walk itself, festival activities include an official Opening and Awards Ceremony, a twilight Picnic with entertainment, a workshop with a local indigenous artist, small sculpture workshops, craft activities, artist talks, and outdoor café on the foreshore.

A full, long weekend of visual pleasure. Visit regional fairs, art, craft & quilting shows. Lions Art Show, Snowy Quilters Exhibition and the Craft market.

Follow the Alpine Way Art Trail to Thredbo via the Thredbo Valley Distillery and Lake Crackenback Resort, all places having excellent sculptures, cafes, restaurants, outdoor activities and beautiful alpine scenery.

Visitors should also head up to Perisher & Charlottes Pass for inspiration from natural sculptural forms and invigorating mountain scenery.
